New Year in Los Cabos: Where to Stay and What to Book Early

Los Cabos is the loudest place in Mexico over New Year, and for a certain kind of group that is precisely the appeal. Cabo San Lucas does a genuinely serious New Year’s Eve — restaurants booked solid, beach clubs at capacity, fireworks over the marina — and unlike much of the Caribbean, you can reach it on a direct flight from most of the western United States and be at the villa within an hour of landing.

The two Cabos, and why it matters at New Year

The most useful thing to understand before booking is that Los Cabos is two towns thirty minutes apart, joined by a corridor of resorts and villa communities.
Cabo San Lucas is the party end — the marina, the nightlife, the beach clubs, and the New Year’s Eve that people fly in for. San José del Cabo at the other end is the colonial town: an art district, quieter restaurants, and an evening that ends considerably earlier. The corridor between them holds most of the golf and the calmest swimming beaches.
Groups who want to be out on 31 December should be in or near Cabo San Lucas. Groups travelling with young children usually do better in the corridor or San José del Cabo, driving in for the night if they want it. Getting this the wrong way round is the single most common Los Cabos booking mistake.
One practical note that catches people out: much of the Pacific-facing coast here has strong surf and undertow and is not safe for swimming. The calm swimming beaches are on the Sea of Cortés side — Medano, Chileno, Santa Maria, Palmilla. We confirm what the water is actually like at each villa rather than leaving you to discover it.

Choosing by group size

Very large groups: 24 to 32 guests

This is where Los Cabos leads the whole portfolio. Casa Kokomo & Primavera is a dual-villa estate in Puerto Los Cabos sleeping 32 across thirteen bedrooms — the largest festive capacity we hold anywhere in the world.
Villa Delfines and Casa Manta works on the same principle: two beachfront houses in Cabo Real taking 28 between them. Both are worth considering for groups that have outgrown a single house — you get the scale without everyone sharing one kitchen.
Rancho de Costa is the outlier: a ten-bedroom estate for 28 out on the East Cape, well away from the New Year crowds entirely.

Large groups: 18 to 24 guests

Sunrise Villa is eight bedrooms sleeping 31 in Pedregal, the cliffside community immediately above Cabo San Lucas — which puts you walking distance from the marina on New Year’s Eve. Villa Turquesa is ten bedrooms on the same hillside for 24, and Villa Saguaro takes 24 in Puerto Los Cabos.

Mid-size groups: 14 to 20 guests

Maison de Cortes is a seven-bedroom house with dual pools in Cabo San Lucas. Villa Las Palmas and Villa Las Flores are both seven-bedroom Pedregal estates for 18, and Villa Lazul sits in the corridor with an infinity pool, sleeping 18.
For smaller groups, Casa del Mar is a staffed five-bedroom beachfront villa in Punta Bella, and Villa Marcella is beachfront in Pedregal for 14.

What to lock in early

New Year’s Eve in Cabo is the one night of the year where not booking ahead genuinely costs you the evening.
Restaurant reservations for 31 December are gone by late autumn at the places worth going to. Private chefs are the alternative and are equally contested — many groups now do the villa dinner and go out afterwards, which is both easier and better. Beach club tables for 1 January need holding in advance. Golf over the holiday week books out across all the corridor courses. And SJD arrivals on 27–31 December are the heaviest of the year, so transfers want confirming rather than improvising.

How far ahead to book

The Pedregal cliffside estates and the beachfront houses in Cabo Real and Palmilla are the first to go, commonly nine to twelve months ahead.
