Finland offers two very different private stays. In the north, Finnish Lapland is snow, fells and forest from late autumn into spring: ski resorts like Levi and Ylläs, the wilderness around Saariselkä and Lake Inari, and northern lights season from late August to early April. Our Lapland villas are log lodges and modern fell-side homes, most of them fully staffed with a private chef, a driver-host and housekeeping, so the days can be built around the snow and the evenings around the sky.

Ruka, in the Kuusamo region just south of Lapland, adds a ski resort on the edge of Oulanka National Park.

In the south, summer is the season. Our southern Finland villas sit on lakes, islands and the archipelago coast, from the Helsinki region to Turku and Hanko, with lakeside saunas, docks and long light evenings.

When is the best time for a Lapland villa holiday?

It depends on the trip. Skiing in Levi and Ylläs usually runs from late autumn to early May. Northern lights season runs from late August to early April. December brings the shortest days and the Christmas season, and February to March pairs longer days with deep snow. Southern Finland villas are at their best from June to August.

Can we see the northern lights from the villa?

Often, yes. In Lapland the aurora appears on roughly every other clear night during the season, and many of our villas sit outside the brightest village lights. Sightings always depend on clear skies, so we can also arrange guided aurora outings by car, snowmobile or reindeer sleigh.

Are the Lapland villas staffed?

Most of our Lapland villas are fully staffed, typically with a private chef, a driver-host and housekeeping. What is included varies by villa, so we confirm the service level for your stay before you book.

How do we get to the villas?

Levi and Ylläs are reached through Kittilä Airport, Saariselkä and Inari through Ivalo Airport, and Ruka through Kuusamo Airport, all with flights from Helsinki. Southern Finland villas are reached from Helsinki Airport. We can arrange the transfer from the airport to the villa.
