Ylläs is the highest fell in Finland with ski lifts, at 719 meters, and it has some of the country's longest runs, up to about 3 kilometers. Two villages sit on either side of the fell: Äkäslompolo to the north, with its lake and village life, and Ylläsjärvi to the south. The whole area borders Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, so cross-country trails, snowshoe routes and silent forest start just past the slopes.

Kittilä Airport is about 39 kilometers away, and Kolari station, about 37 kilometers away, has direct trains to Helsinki. The ski season runs from late autumn into spring, and aurora season runs from late August to early April.
