Our ski chalet collection spans five of the world’s premier alpine destinations — Courchevel and Megève in the French Alps, Verbier and Zermatt in Switzerland, and Whistler in Canada. Every chalet is a staffed private home rather than a hotel suite: timber and stone, open fires, wellness areas and hot tubs, and in most cases a chalet host and private chef, with breakfast, afternoon tea, and dinner served as part of a catered package.

The resorts are not interchangeable, and choosing well matters more here than in almost any other kind of holiday. Courchevel is the crown of the Three Valleys, the largest linked ski area on earth, with 1850 the most prestigious address in the Alps. Megève is the elegant one — a medieval village beneath Mont Blanc with three-Michelin-starred dining, gentle scenic slopes, and the best family skiing of the five. Verbier is the freeride capital of Europe: steep, demanding, and famous for its nightlife, and the wrong choice if half your group are beginners. Zermatt is car-free, dominated by the Matterhorn, and has the highest and most snow-sure skiing in Europe. Whistler is North America’s largest ski area, with a car-free pedestrian village that suits big family groups.

A word we would rather say now than after you arrive: genuine ski-in/ski-out is rarer than the marketing suggests, particularly in Verbier, where the village is built across a hillside and a shuttle is simply the norm. That is geography, not a failing of any chalet. We tell you the distance to the lift in minutes, not adjectives, and whether the chalet runs its own driver — most staffed ones do.

Chalets go earlier than any other kind of villa. The festive fortnight and February half-term are the two contested weeks of the season, and the best homes are taken nine to twelve months ahead — many re-booked by the same families before they reach the market.
