— St Jean is the most convenient base on St Barthelemy. The beach, the shops and a dense run of restaurants are all here, and the airport is minutes away. Astra sits above the bay rather than on it, which is what gives it the panorama over the water and the pond reserve. The beach is within walking distance, unusual for a hillside villa on this island, so daily errands do not need a car. A rental car is still worth having to reach the rest of St Barts.

About this Property

Astra in St Jean

Astra — interior and outdoor living spaces

00 — Overview

Astra is one of the two houses on the Astra Estate property above St Jean, and the larger of the pair. Three bedrooms, three bathrooms, six guests, arranged over two levels with an internal staircase between them.

The character of the house is light and graphic rather than tropical: white and mineral tones, clean lines, artwork, and red accents carried from the cushions on the terrace through to the jars in the lower garden. That is a deliberate contrast with Villa SAS next door, which is dark wood and Indonesian in influence. Groups that book both houses get two genuinely different interiors rather than two of the same.

The view is the reason the house sits where it does. The main level opens through wide windows onto the terrace and the heated pool, looking over St Jean bay and the pond reserve behind it, with the hills rising beyond.

One practical point worth knowing in advance: guest laundry cannot be washed at this villa, by the housekeeping team or otherwise.

On the same property: Villa SAS is the second house here, two bedrooms on one level for four guests. Taken together the two form Astra Estate – five bedrooms, five bathrooms and ten guests across two separate villas.

01 — Indoor Living

Open, layered interiors

The living room occupies the main level as a single open space with the kitchen and dining area, furnished with sofas and armchairs and fitted with high-speed internet and streaming television. Wide windows run along the view side, so the bay is present from most of the room. The dining area sits in the same space, in a white and mineral palette.

The kitchen is modern, air-conditioned and fully equipped: gas cooker, oven, microwave, dishwasher, filter coffee machine and espresso machine. The main dining table is on the terrace rather than indoors.

An internal staircase connects the two levels.

02 — Outdoor & Pool

Designed for the day outside

The terrace runs along the front of the main level, opening onto the heated pool with loungers and sun decks alongside it. Pool heating operates from 15 November to 30 April and holds the water between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius depending on outside conditions; outside those dates the pool is unheated.

The outdoor dining table seats six, which matches the guest count, so the whole house eats together outside. Cushions and red accents carry the interior palette onto the terrace. Stairs lead down to a second private terrace at the lower level, beside the garden. The grounds are lit after dark, and private parking sits at the entrance.

03 — Bedrooms

Sleeping for 6

Three bedrooms, all king, all air-conditioned and all en-suite, each with a safe, a hair dryer and HD television with Apple TV.

One is on the main level, alongside the living space.

The other two are on the lower level, facing a garden planted around large red jars, and open onto their own terrace. Being a floor below the living room makes them the quieter pair, which suits couples sharing the house or anyone keeping different hours from the rest of the group.

Three bedrooms, three bathrooms, six guests: two per room throughout.

Destination Profile

St Barts

St Barthélemy — St Barts — is the French Caribbean’s most polished island, a small volcanic outcrop that has drawn a discreet, well-heeled crowd for decades. Our villas are spread across its hillsides and coves: the harbor capital of Gustavia, the long sweep of Gouverneur and Saline in the south, the calm family beaches of Lorient and Grand Cul-de-Sac, and the sunset-facing points of Flamands and Colombier. Almost every home has an ocean view; many have infinity pools that appear to spill toward the sea. St Barts is defined by a particular blend of French style and Caribbean ease. Gustavia’s harbor fills with yachts through the winter season, its quay lined with French boutiques and restaurants; the beaches range from the chic scene at Saline to the quiet, undeveloped stretch of Gouverneur. The island is compact enough to drive end to end in half an hour, yet its villas offer complete privacy — hillside estates with staff, private chefs, and terraces built for the view. This is an island for those who want luxury without a resort — self-contained villas where the day is yours, whether that means a beach-club lunch, a boat charter to nearby Île Fourchue, or dinner cooked at home by a private chef. The winter season, culminating in a famously festive New Year, is the social peak; spring and autumn are quieter and just as warm. The villas suit couples, families, and groups who value design, discretion, and service — one- to seven-bedroom homes with concierge planning and full staff on request. St Barts is reached by short flight or ferry from St Martin. Share your dates, group size, and whether you want Gustavia-close, a specific beach, or a panoramic hilltop, and we’ll send a curated shortlist of St Barts villas, with every rate, service charge and booking condition itemized in the written quotation.

How many guests does Astra sleep?

Astra sleeps up to 6 guests across 3 bedrooms, with 3 bathrooms. What a group can comfortably use depends on the room-by-room configuration rather than the bedroom count alone, so we confirm the layout against your party before you book.

Where is Astra located?

Astra is in St Jean, St Barts. We can confirm drive times from the airport and what is within reach on foot before you commit to the location.

Can guests walk to the beach?

Yes. The property is within walking distance of St Jean beach, with the shops and restaurants of St Jean close by. A rental car is still worth having for the rest of the island.

Can we have a private chef at Astra?

Yes, a private chef can be arranged at Astra. Chef service is booked on request and quoted separately from the villa rate, so it is never assumed to be included.

Who is Astra best suited to?

Astra works particularly well for families with children and couples. Tell us how your group is made up and we will say plainly whether this villa fits, or point you to one that does.

How much does Astra cost, and how do we book?

Rates are quoted per stay rather than published as a single number, because they move with the season, the length of stay and the size of the group, and taxes and fees vary by destination. Send your dates and we confirm availability and the rate with the owner before anything is charged.

Is laundry available at Astra?

No. Guest laundry cannot be washed at this villa, by the housekeeping team or otherwise. It is worth planning around on a longer stay. Laundry assistance is available next door at Villa SAS, for a fee.

How are the three bedrooms arranged?

One is on the main level beside the living space. The other two are on the lower level, facing the garden and opening onto their own terrace, which makes them the quieter pair. All three are king-size, air-conditioned and en-suite.
