00 — Overview

Astra is one of the two houses on the Astra Estate property above St Jean, and the larger of the pair. Three bedrooms, three bathrooms, six guests, arranged over two levels with an internal staircase between them.

The character of the house is light and graphic rather than tropical: white and mineral tones, clean lines, artwork, and red accents carried from the cushions on the terrace through to the jars in the lower garden. That is a deliberate contrast with Villa SAS next door, which is dark wood and Indonesian in influence. Groups that book both houses get two genuinely different interiors rather than two of the same.

The view is the reason the house sits where it does. The main level opens through wide windows onto the terrace and the heated pool, looking over St Jean bay and the pond reserve behind it, with the hills rising beyond.

One practical point worth knowing in advance: guest laundry cannot be washed at this villa, by the housekeeping team or otherwise.

01 — Indoor Living

Open, layered interiors

The living room occupies the main level as a single open space with the kitchen and dining area, furnished with sofas and armchairs and fitted with high-speed internet and streaming television. Wide windows run along the view side, so the bay is present from most of the room. The dining area sits in the same space, in a white and mineral palette.

The kitchen is modern, air-conditioned and fully equipped: gas cooker, oven, microwave, dishwasher, filter coffee machine and espresso machine. The main dining table is on the terrace rather than indoors.

An internal staircase connects the two levels.

02 — Outdoor & Pool

Designed for the day outside

The terrace runs along the front of the main level, opening onto the heated pool with loungers and sun decks alongside it. Pool heating operates from 15 November to 30 April and holds the water between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius depending on outside conditions; outside those dates the pool is unheated.

The outdoor dining table seats six, which matches the guest count, so the whole house eats together outside. Cushions and red accents carry the interior palette onto the terrace. Stairs lead down to a second private terrace at the lower level, beside the garden. The grounds are lit after dark, and private parking sits at the entrance.

03 — Bedrooms

Three bedrooms, all king, all air-conditioned and all en-suite, each with a safe, a hair dryer and HD television with Apple TV.

One is on the main level, alongside the living space.

The other two are on the lower level, facing a garden planted around large red jars, and open onto their own terrace. Being a floor below the living room makes them the quieter pair, which suits couples sharing the house or anyone keeping different hours from the rest of the group.
