Area Context

About Ubud

Our Ubud villas are staffed private houses with pools: Villa San, six bedrooms for up to 12 guests close to the Royal Palace, and Villa Agung, five bedrooms for up to 12 guests. For larger groups, Villa Nag Shampa in nearby Tegallalang has eight bedrooms for up to 16. Private chef service, drivers and day trips to temples and rice terraces can be arranged.

Ubud is Bali’s inland centre — rice terraces, river gorges, temples and craft villages, roughly an hour north of the south-coast resort areas. It has no beach, and that is the reason to come: cooler evenings, green views and a slower pace than Seminyak or Canggu.

The town is compact around the Royal Palace and the market, with the Sacred Monkey Forest, the Campuhan Ridge walk and the Tegallalang rice terraces all a short drive away. Dining in the centre ranges from local warungs to fine dining, but once you are outside town most villas rely on a driver or a private chef in the evening.

Ubud suits groups who want landscape, wellness, cooking classes and temple visits rather than surf and beach clubs. Many split the trip — a few nights inland, the rest on the coast in Seminyak or on the Uluwatu clifftops. Transfers from Ngurah Rai airport take 60 to 90 minutes, longer at peak traffic.

Frequently Asked

About Ubud

How far is Ubud from the beach?

Ubud has no beach of its own. The nearest south-coast beaches are roughly an hour away by car, and Seminyak or Canggu can take longer in traffic. Groups who want both usually split the stay rather than commute daily.

How far is Ubud from the airport?

60 to 90 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), depending on traffic. Evening arrivals are usually quicker than mid-afternoon.

Should we split our stay between Ubud and the coast?

Many groups do — typically three or four nights inland and the rest on the coast. We can quote villas in both areas together and arrange the transfer between them.
