Mykonos is the most cosmopolitan island in Greece and makes no apology for it. The beaches are organised and glamorous — Psarou and Platis Gialos with their celebrated beach clubs, Paradise and Super Paradise for the party, and quieter sands at Ornos and Kalo Livadi for families. Chora, the main town, is a genuinely beautiful maze of whitewashed lanes, Little Venice, and the windmills, packed with designer boutiques and restaurants, and it does not sleep. Paros: the balance
Paros has quietly become the smartest choice in the Cyclades. Naoussa, its harbour town, is arguably prettier than Chora — a fishing port with a half-sunken Venetian castle, ringed by boutiques and some of the best restaurants in the islands — with a fraction of the intensity and the prices. The beaches are better: Kolymbithres, with its sculpted granite coves and shallow water, is one of the finest family beaches in Greece; Santa Maria has white sand and turquoise shallows; Golden Beach is a world-class windsurfing spot. Paros wins. Kolymbithres, Santa Maria, and Golden Beach are better beaches than anything on Mykonos, with shallower, calmer water and more space. Mykonos’s beaches are more organised and more glamorous — which is a different thing from better.
Nightlife
Mykonos, comfortably. It is one of the great party islands in the world. Paros has excellent bars and a lively Naoussa waterfront, but it goes to bed.
Food
Closer than you would think. Mykonos has more celebrated restaurants and beach clubs; Naoussa’s dining scene is now genuinely outstanding and considerably better value. Call it a draw, with Mykonos ahead on scene and Paros ahead on value.

Getting there — and why it matters
Both islands have airports and both are well served by ferry, but there is a practical difference. Mykonos has far more direct international flights in summer, from across Europe, so it is usually the easier arrival if you are flying in from abroad. Paros has a smaller airport with mostly domestic connections from Athens, around forty minutes in the air, plus fast ferries from Piraeus taking three to four hours. If you are combining the two, the sensible route is often to fly into Mykonos, ferry across to Paros, and fly home from Athens — our concierge sorts the timings, which in July and August is genuinely worth having done for you.
When to visit
The season on both runs from May to October. July and August are the peak — hottest, busiest, and most expensive, and the meltemi wind blows hard through the Cyclades, which is a gift at Golden Beach and a nuisance elsewhere. The sweet spot on both islands is late May to June and September to early October: warm seas, softer light, thin crowds, and materially better value. The difference is what happens at the edges of the season — Mykonos empties out sharply once the beach clubs close, while Paros, with its villages and its interior, remains a pleasant place to be.
