Most chalet searches fall apart at the same point: the group is eighteen people, the beautiful chalet sleeps twelve, and nobody wants to be the family sent to the hotel down the road. Megève handles large groups better than its reputation as an elegant village suggests — but the properties that genuinely work at that size are a short and specific list, and they book earliest. Here is exactly what exists.
How the numbers actually break down
Of the 61 chalets in our Megève collection, 24 sleep 14 or more. Only four sleep 18 or more, and only two reach 20. Past twenty guests under one roof, Megève runs out — and the honest answer becomes two chalets close together rather than one stretched beyond what it comfortably holds.
That top-end depth is worth knowing because it is better than the obvious alternative. Our largest Courchevel chalets sleep around 16, so for a group of eighteen or twenty travelling together, Megève currently offers more single-roof options than the larger resort next door.
Sleeping 18 to 20: the four largest
Chalet Zannier — 12 bedrooms, sleeps 20. The largest chalet we have in Megève by some margin, and unusual in that twelve bedrooms means twenty guests without anyone sharing awkwardly. Set in the heart of the village with a wellness area, so non-skiers and late risers have the whole of Megève on foot.
Chalet Izoard — 8 bedrooms, sleeps 20, on the Mont d’Arbois plateau with ski-in/ski-out access and a wellness area. The one to take if the group is large and serious about skiing — it is the only property in Megève that delivers both at this size. Twenty guests across eight rooms does mean children sharing.
Chalet des Ors — 9 bedrooms, sleeps 18, near the village with mountain views and a quieter setting than the centre.
Chalet Ultima Megeve — 9 bedrooms, sleeps 18, with a wellness area. Nine bedrooms for eighteen guests is the comfortable ratio for a multi-family trip where every couple wants their own room.
Sleeping 15 to 16
This is the sweet spot for three families or a large celebration, and the choice is genuinely good:
- Chalet Atlas — 8 bedrooms, sleeps 16.
- Chalet des Fermes de Marie — 8 bedrooms, sleeps 16, in Megève Centre, walkable to everything.
- Chalet Otoctone — 8 bedrooms, sleeps 16, also in the village centre.
- Chalet des Ours — 8 bedrooms, sleeps 16, with a wellness area and a more secluded setting.
- Chalet Ariana — 7 bedrooms, sleeps 16, village centre, with a wellness area and ski lifts a short walk away.
- Chalet Kantaa — 6 bedrooms, sleeps 16, ski-in/ski-out on Mont d’Arbois. Six rooms for sixteen guests, so this one only works if the group includes children happy to share.
- Chalet 141 — 7 bedrooms, sleeps 15, secluded, with a wellness area.
Sleeping 14
Twelve more chalets sit at fourteen guests, most of them with seven bedrooms — the cleanest ratio in the collection for seven couples or a family group that wants everyone in their own room. They include Chalet de Blaye, Chalet Aston Crest, Chalet Sarto, Chalet Marianna, Chalet de la Cry, Chalet Satine, Chalet Infinity, Chalet Baltus, Chalet Firmin and Chalet Les Fermes à La Léonthine.
Two at this size are worth singling out for specific groups. Chalet Mont Blanc — 7 bedrooms, sleeps 14 — is on Mont d’Arbois with ski-in/ski-out access and is the one property in the collection tagged for multi-generational groups. Chalet Des Sens — 6 bedrooms, sleeps 14 — is also ski-in/ski-out, elevated on the plateau with panoramic valley views and a wellness area.
Bedrooms matter more than the headline number
The most common mistake with a large group is booking to the guest count and discovering the bedroom count does not match how the group is actually composed. Sixteen guests in six bedrooms and sixteen guests in eight bedrooms are completely different holidays. Four couples and eight children fit the first happily. Eight couples do not.
Before shortlisting, write down the group as units rather than heads: how many couples, how many children, who will share, and whether anyone needs a ground-floor room. Then match that to bedrooms first and guest capacity second. We will do this with you — it takes one conversation and it prevents the single most expensive booking mistake in the category.
Village or plateau for a big group
Large groups are almost always mixed groups, and that tilts the decision. The village-centre chalets — Zannier, Fermes de Marie, Otoctone, Ariana — let non-skiers, grandparents and teenagers walk out into Megève independently, which removes an enormous amount of logistics from the week. The Mont d’Arbois chalets — Izoard, Mont Blanc, Des Sens, Kantaa — give the skiers the door-to-piste access, but everyone else is dependent on a driver. With eighteen people, that dependence is worth thinking about honestly before you fall for the view.
What a staffed chalet gives a group this size
At fourteen-plus, staffing stops being a luxury and becomes the thing that makes the week work. Every chalet in our Megève collection offers a chef on demand, and the concierge handles lift passes, ski hire, ski school bookings, restaurant reservations and transfers from Geneva — which is about an hour away, with no high passes. Feeding eighteen people twice a day in a resort at peak season is not something a group should be organising itself.
