Tigre del Mar sits on a secluded bluff above Playa Rosa in Costa Careyes, on the Jalisco coast between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo. The house is painted cobalt blue, surrounded by jungle, and was designed by an Italian architect.
It is split across three buildings. The Tower holds most of the bedrooms, set around a spiral staircase with views out over the water. The main palapa is a large open-air room under a hand-built palm roof, joining the living room, dining area and terrace. Casa del Tres Mil holds further guest rooms and a screening room lined floor to ceiling with books.
Outside, a smooth concrete terrace shaped like the bow of a ship faces the Pacific. There are pools – one lined with tiles that absorb sunlight during the day and glow after dark – an outdoor jacuzzi, a roof terrace, and an underground grotto made for lying back under the night sky. Playa Rosa lies below the bluff, and sunset horseback rides along the shore can be arranged.
Seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, fourteen guests. A chef, a butler and a housekeeper are part of the house staff; spa treatments and use of an artist’s studio can be arranged on request.
