Visiting the Acropolis
Timed entry is mandatory at the Acropolis — tickets are sold for hourly slots, with a 15-minute grace window on either side, and should be booked online in advance rather than on arrival. A standard adult ticket runs €30 year-round. In peak season, May through September, walk-up ticket lines can run up to two hours, so booking ahead and visiting early or late in the day makes a real difference. Pair the Acropolis with the neoclassical lanes of Plaka and the Acropolis Museum at its base, all walkable from each other in central Athens.
The Athenian Riviera
South of the city, the coast road runs through Glyfada, Voula and Vouliagmeni — where Athenians themselves summer, with blue-flag beaches, marinas and seafront dining. Vouliagmeni has an unusual detour worth building into a day: Lake Vouliagmeni, a thermal lake where you swim beneath a limestone cavern in mineral-rich, naturally warm water — a genuinely different experience from the open-sea beaches nearby. Follow the coast further south through Lagonissi, Saronida, Anavyssos and Keratea and it opens into the wider Attica peninsula, ending at Cape Sounio and the cliff-top Temple of Poseidon — one of Greece’s most photographed sunset spots.

Getting there and getting around
Athens International Airport (ATH) serves the whole coast, with transfer times of roughly 30 to 45 minutes to most Riviera villa areas. A rental car or private driver is recommended for exploring beyond your immediate villa area — the coast is long, and central Athens, the Riviera towns and Cape Sounio are each a meaningful drive apart. April through October is the main season, with hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters.
