Outside, Le Grand Cerf reads as a classic wooden chalet; inside, the volumes are lofty and the style closer to an industrial loft, with a cathedral ceiling, modern art and colourful sofas. South-facing balconies and a terrace catch the sun, and a large outdoor Jacuzzi faces the mountains.

Eight en-suite bedrooms mix doubles, twins and rooms of three and four singles, which suits families and mixed groups better than most chalets this size. Ski access is by car — about five minutes to La Chaudanne.

The third-floor living room has a cathedral ceiling, a fireplace and three games tables. On the same floor, the dining area has its own fireplace and terrace access beside an Italian-style island kitchen.
